Orchard support groups are organized and facilitated by Orchard members, for Orchard members!

Art supplies and group materials are funded entirely by donations from our community. If you would like to support Orchard groups and activities, donations can be made HERE.

For any questions regarding Orchard groups or activities, please contact Skylar Linn.

Alex is a gentle soul whose presence at the Orchard is always calming. With the support of those closest to him and his art, Alex has demonstrated great resilience in the face of life’s challenges. He studied Psychology at the University of Nebraska and has been very active with Artists on the Edge. He recently participated in his first public exhibition at Indigo Books.

Alex facilitates the Creative Expressions Group at the Orchard.

Mondays 1:00 – 2:30 PM

Facilitated by Aaron & Alex

This artistic processing support group will offer participants a chance to explore daily challenges, goals, and recovery within the context of visual arts. The group will combine unstructured creative expression with Art Bridges: Lesson Plans for Enrichment, Growth & Healing from Hildegard Center for the Arts.

Not “good” at art? No worries! This group is about expressing internal reality, emotions, and struggles in a visual way, not creating masterpieces worth millions (but if you do happen to sell something for millions… we do take donations!).

Because this group does require supplies, we encourage you to sign-up so that we can have enough supplies prepared for all participants!

Aaron is an artist who works in photography, video, and painting. In these disciplines he explores aspects of his life, family and inner circle of friends through personal narratives, documentary approaches and abstract exercises. Art has always been a tool he has used to sort through life issues, both the good and the bad. He sees creative expression as a way to gain a better understanding of himself and and the world around him, something he plans to explore further through facilitating the Creative Expressions Group at the Orchard.

Women’s Support Group

Fridays 2:00 – 3:30 PM

Facilitated by Juli

The Women’s Support Group provides a comfortable environment for women to share stories and experiences with each other in an open and authentic way. This group is a chance to build new connections, give and recieve recovery-focused support, and discuss topics in a confidential setting.

Juli brings a positive energy to any group. She has a Bipolar diagnosis that she has put a great deal of time and energy into learning to manage well. She is also recovering from addiction and an eating disorder that continue to present her with opportunities to grow.

Scott is an honest and caring person who looks forward to helping our community each day. He has facilitated groups for Lutheran Family Services for both men and women facing issues of addiction. He is passionate about helping others problem solve, and sharing his lived experience.

Weekend Mental Wellness Support Group

Saturdays 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Facilitated by Jen & Scott

Open to all Orchard members, this Mental Wellness Support Group is scheduled with those members whose weekday demands just don’t leave time to attend any of our weekly groups in mind! Come discuss the challenges of the week and celebrate the victories together in an atmosphere of acceptance and support. This group will address a wide variety of challenges specific to living with mental health challenges.

Jen is compassionate, kind, and genuine. She has a strength for seeing the best in those around her regardless of their history or past mistakes. She is currently continuing her education in the mental health field at UNL and has been involved with The Orchard since moving back to Lincoln from the Chicago area last year. She has facilitated mental health support groups in the past and has a passion for walking side-by-side with group members as they explore recovery together.

PTSD & Veteran’s Support Group

Saturdays 2:00 – 3:00 PM

Anyone who has experienced a traumatic event (or events) that have impacted the way you live your daily life is invited to participate in this support group. Here, you will find a welcoming space to connect with others who share similar experiences while finding healing, balance, and purpose. The Orchard is proud to support our nation’s combat veterans and wants to extend a special invitation to military veterans who feel that PTSD is a part of their experience to attend this group.

LGBTQ+ Support Group

Saturday 5:00 – 6:00 PM

This group will provide a safe space for anyone with mental health challenges to discuss issues regarding your sexual orientation/sexual identity and integration of your identity and mental health into other aspects of your life.
